Each of the 12 Shaping Futures partner institutions is fully committed  to widening access to Higher Education and to providing outreach activity for young people in the Liverpool City Region to support this commitment. On this page you’ll see a brief line of the standard activities offered by each of our partners in a typical year, as well as a link to their outreach website where you can find out more and contact the institution directly.

Please be aware, some of the activities listed may have eligibility criteria, either for the school or individual student. They may also be offered in an alternative or adapted format while the COVID 19 pandemic is taking place.

Carmel College

At Carmel we provide students, with outstanding services to encourage the development of realistic economic and educational plans. We provide access to career resources, offer impartial individual guidance interviews, and operate a programme to develop employability and decision-making skills.

Potential students access impartial guidance and all are interviewed to discuss their future plans. Virtual careers information is available. All students are encouraged to attend events at Carmel including open evenings and taster days. Through the year our outreach team engages with local schools arranging bespoke workshops often with the involvement of local HE institutions.

City of Liverpool College

At the City of Liverpool College, we offer young people, adults and their parents or employers comprehensive support in accessing degree-level study or apprenticeships with our University Centre. We’re happy to tailor our services and activities to suit individual interests and needs, and welcome enquiries from prospective students at any stage of their educational journey. Our activities include open events, information sessions, and subject taster sessions or master classes throughout the year.

Liverpool Hope University

At Liverpool Hope University we provide a wide range of stimulating and informative sessions for young people considering their future options. These sessions can be tailored to suit individual school and college requirements, and can be delivered virtually or face-to-face where possible.

Our activities include:

  • Sessions on topics such as personal statements, student finance or how to choose the right university
  • EPQ and Library Support events, where students are introduced to academic research and how to use an academic library
  • Pre and Post-16 Set Days, where students are able to visit campus and experience university through taster sessions and workshops
  • Academic subject taster sessions

 

Edge Hill University

The team at Edge Hill University provide prospective students, parents, carers, supporters, teachers, tutors and advisers with impartial information, advice and guidance around Higher Education, and specifically provision at Edge Hill University. In addition to delivering presentations and workshops for both pre-16 and post-16 students in schools, colleges and communities, the team also run virtual and physical on-campus events and taster sessions which are designed to provide information and insight into study at University level, as well as the student experience at Edge Hill University.

Hugh Baird College

We are very proud of our specialist programme of activities designed to equip young people with relevant and up-to-date careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) on both Further Education and Higher Education opportunities.

The College does this through offering a series of on and off campus activities, talks and workshops, and by supporting students through the application process. Each student has the chance to undertake a guidance interview if they are unsure of their options, where staff are able to advise them according to their future aspirations and career goals.

Liverpool John Moores University

At LJMU we encourage the progression to higher education for anyone who wants to access it, regardless of background or social status. One of the University’s key values of providing transformational opportunities for all communities is at the heart of our outreach programmes.

We have a range of outreach programmes that support students with their understanding of higher education, enhance their skills and help them make an informed choice about their future.

Cronton & Riverside College

We offer schools and their pupils the opportunity to access a wide range of activities and events supporting them with their transition from school including:

At Cronton Sixth Form College:
• Prestigious Universities Programme, to support students accessing some of the world’s best institutions including Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities events.
• Student Leadership Team offering opportunities to gain work experience and participate in exciting trips and visits.
• Scholarships to students, worth up to £2000 in its 3 Centres of Excellence.
• Tomorrow’s Scientists, Lawyers and Teacher’s programmes through ‘The Cronton Experience’

At Riverside College:
• Bespoke taster days, workshops and activities including around Higher Education and Apprenticeships.
• Centres of Excellence in Hair & Beauty, Catering & Hospitality.
Virtual open days, enrichment trips & visits and much more!

LIPA

LIPA’s Widening Participation team is pleased to offer a range of free activities for school/college groups such as:

• Campus visits
• Bespoke practical workshops in your school or college
• Talks and Q&A sessions from students and graduates
• Attendance at careers fairs
Further opportunities for individuals interested in performing arts and making performance possible subjects include:
• Our extended outreach programme for Year 10 and 11 students
• Summer events for Year 12 (and equivalent) learners

St Helens College

St Helens College’s School Liaison Team promote choice and opportunities to young people, as they begin to explore their options and make that all important decision about their future upon leaving school. The team can offer a range of engaging activities, events and services, that can be tailored to meet your requirements, such as:


• Tours of campus
• Industry experience sessions
• Career coach workshops.

University of Liverpool

University of Liverpool delivers a range of virtual and in-person outreach to disadvantaged students across the Merseyside region. Opportunities range from whole class events to individual mentoring, Primary schools up to Sixth Form and one-off sessions to long term intensive projects.

We also have a proven track record of working with niche groups, such as Care Leavers, Estranged Students and Asylum Seekers.

University of Chester

The University of Chester Outreach team works closely with students of all ages, teachers and advisors to provide interactive information, advice and guidance and deliver a range of events and activities designed to broaden aspirations and enhance the awareness and benefits of higher education. We provide impartial and accurate information on student finance and the UCAS application process. We also have a number of study skills workbooks that can help prepare students for life at university.


Our resources for Teachers and Advisers are intended to assist with developments concerning higher education, as well as providing useful signposting resources for you to support your students.

Wirral Met

Through enhancing the awareness of opportunities that higher education can provide, Wirral Met College aims to inspire its student community to achieve their goals.

Offering high quality information, advice and guidance to students, young people, parents and schools, the College works closely with its university partners and local employers to deliver a programme of interactive events and outreach activities.
